The communities served by IMG newspapers are growing and have solid, well-diversified economies with strong retail purchasing power. Major retailers advertising in the newspapers include K-Mart, Walgreens, J.C. Penney, Daytons, Sears, and Walmart.
The newspapers have strong franchises in their markets. Except for two newspapers, each was founded more than 100 years ago and is the only paid newspaper in its respective area. Most of the communities are county seats. All of the papers have strong editorial credentials. Each has maintained its local market dominance by providing readers with strong coverage of local news and by providing advertisers with total coverage of their markets. Most of the papers have further strengthened their franchise with the introduction of paid Sunday editions and Internet offerings.
In addition to the strong newspaper franchises, IMG developed a successful and rapidly growing commercial printing business. Utilizing newly expanded facilities and large press capacities in Adrian, Chippewa Falls, Columbus, Portage, Sturgis, Fremont and Shawano, IMG added to its steady growth in revenue and profits by printing newspapers and newsprint publications for local, regional and national publishers.
